The Cristiano Ronaldo transfer saga that looked set to dominate the summer was over before it really began, after the Real Madrid forward settled his differences with the Real Madrid hierachy. Whilst some fans were reeled in by the idea that he might be heading for the exit door this summer, most saw it for the obvious red herring that it was.

But it has made one thing very clear: all is not rosy with Ronaldo in Spain, and although he can't escape the tax authorities simply by leaving the country, he could be tempted into a transfer move if things get particularly sour.

There will, presumably, be no shortage of potential suitors if he does, with both Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain waiting to pounce.
