10 Footballers Who Really Didn't Deserve Winners Medals
2. Luke Chadwick
Of all the hundreds of players to have represented United in the Premier League era, none looked less like a footballer than Luke Chadwick. Unfortunately, he also had a limited amount of talent too. Having risen through the youth team at Old Trafford, big things were potentially expected of the midfielder. It didn't take long to realise that he was never going to make it at the top level though. The madness of all this is that he has still won as many, if not more, league titles than some of the finest British players of the last 20 years. The 2000/01 was an extremely dominant one by Sir Alex Ferguson's side, as they cantered to yet another Premier League success. Chadwick was well down the pecking order in terms of importance, but he somehow managed to rack up 16 league appearance, scoring twice. He was sent-off against Liverpool in December 2000, after cynically hauling down Vladimir Smicer with the Czech star clean-through on goal. His tally of games meant that a winners medal was his in May 2001, and many were left pinching themselves about how Chadwick had somehow won the same award that the likes of Roy Keane, Paul Scholes, David Beckham and Giggs had that same day. Predictably, he didn't last long at Old Trafford, and after loan spells at Royal Antwerp, Reading and Burnley, he moved to West Ham in 2004. There was something strangely likeable about him - perhaps we just felt sorry for him - but he is unquestionably one of United's most forgettable players for a long time.
