10 Footballers Who Returned To Their Former Clubs For Inflated Prices
10. Leighton Baines - Everton
Leighton Baines thought his football career would never take off back when he was a fresh-out-of-school 15 year old scurrying around for his first professional club. A boyhood fan of Liverpool, the young Baines had a trial with the Reds and also with their Merseyside derby rivals Everton, but neither were interested and he failed to get into their academies. Disconsolate, the Englishman went to Wolves for a trial and Wanderers liked what they saw and offered him his first professional contract. At the same time, he also trialled for Wigan, and wound up playing for the Latics instead. Baines spent five years playing for Wigan until David Moyes, needing a dependable left-back at Everton, came in with a £6 million bid to take him to Goodison Park. £6 million is a paltry sum but still, the Toffees could have had him for nothing! Baines is expected to put pen to paper on a new deal at Everton later this month and is today considered the best left-back in the Premier League.
