10 Footballers Who Returned To Their Former Clubs For Inflated Prices

8. Gary Pallister - Middlesbrough

Gary Pallister will of course be best remembered for his near-decade long stay at Manchester United between 1989 and 1998. At Old Trafford, the legendary centre-back won four Premier League titles, three FA Cups and one League Cup, Cup Winners' Cup and UEFA Super Cup, making 317 total appearances. Either side of his trophy-laden stay at the Theatre of Dreams were two stints at Middlesborough, where he started his playing career in 1984 before joining United for £2.3 million. Pallister's move to the Red Devils was for a then-British transfer record fee, and he ended his career at the Riverside Stadium in 2001, returning in 1998. Oddly, Middlesbrough paid MORE than United signed him for to buy him back, with the cost of his return setting the north east side back by £2.5 million.
