Like the moon landings, we all remember where we were and what we were doing when Gareth Bale did what he did to Inter Milan. It was a cold October night in 2010 when the Welshman announced himself on the biggest stage of all, humiliating the European Champions with an unbelievable hat-trick and making Brazilian full-back Maicon look like a pub league player.

Thus began a meteoric rise for the Welsh full-back-turned-winger, culminating in a record-breaking €100 million deal to Spanish giants Real Madrid. Bale has gone on to win several Champions League trophies, as well as a La Liga title and a few cups to boot. He hasn't been short of honours, but many would still argue that his move to Real hasn't quite gone as well as it could have.

Bale has been in Ronaldo's shadow since moving to Madrid and has never been fully accepted by the club's fans. Injuries and periods of poor form have also hampered the Welshman, who could be the star in many other teams. Manchester United have repeatedly shown interest in Bale, and at 28, a move back to England could be a smart one for the winger.
