One of few players to enjoy relatively equal success at both clubs, Michael Laudrup proved beyond any doubt he was one of the finest midfielders of his generation with his spells in Madrid and Barcelona.

The Danish star had already been impressive in Italy during spells with both Lazio and Juventus before making the jump to La Liga.

Under the guidance of Johan Cruyff, Laudrup excelled in a Barcelona team which was looking to dominate the European game under the Dutch legend's leadership. His time with the Catalan club coincided with them winning four successive league titles, while they also captured the European Cup in 1992.

Never one to shirk a new challenge however, Laudrup made the surprising jump directly from Barca to Real, becoming one of only a few players in the history of the game to do so.

Yet again, his arrival signalled instant success, as Madrid captured the La Liga title in his first season with the club. A two-year spell didn't quite end up yielding the legendary status he held in Barcelona, but Laudrup still proved his class.
