Cheyrou arrived in Liverpool off the back of a superb season with French club Lille, with plenty expected of the attacking midfielder.

Manager at the time Gerard Houllier drew comparisons between Cheyrou and French World Cup winner Zinedine Zidane, so the pressure was instantly ramped up on Liverpool's new recruit from the very start.

It proved to be a bad comparison and move in general from Houllier, who sat back and saw Cheyrou disappear into obscurity during his time at Anfield after failing to produce anything like the form he had shown in France.

Only 31 league appearances and a measly two goals were all Cheyrou had to show for two seasons in the Premier League, and he was shipped back to France as he sealed a move to Rennes.

He's gone on to rebuild his career somewhat back in his homeland but there is little question his time on Merseyside is not something which will live long in the memory for the right reasons.
