10 Footballers You Totally Forgot Played For England

6. Kevin Davies

Though not always a prolific goalscorer, Kevin Davies became something of a club legend while at Bolton Wanderers, and for a long time was considered one of the better English strikers to never receive a cap for his country. Davies did not exactly set the world on fire during his time at Southampton, Blackburn Rovers, and Millwall, but spent ten years at Bolton, scoring 85 goals in 407 total appearances.

At the age of 33, no-one, not even Davies himself, expected the call from then manager Fabio Capello. Considered amongst the likes of Emile Heskey, Darren Bent, and Andy Carroll, the then Bolton forward was brought into the squad as a target man of sorts to pair with Wayne Rooney.

On 12 October 2010, Davies made his one and only appearance for the Three Lions against Montenegro. After replacing Peter Crouch with around 20 minutes left, the striker became the second oldest player to earn his first cap in England history.

It almost seemed as though Davies' call up was gratuitous at the time, simply because his age meant he was never likely to play a large role for the team further down the line.
