If anybody witnessed Jake Livermores distinct lack of emotion in the immediate aftermath of his pile-driving opener for Hull City against his old club at the weekend, they might surmise that he still has the club at the heart. Having joined the club as a 17 year old in 2006, the midfielder went on to make just 58 appearances for the club in all competitions, having been forced to endure a multitude of loan deals. However, under the stewardship of Harry Redknapp, Livermores Spurs career seemed to be finally taking off, making 24 Premier League appearances for the north London outfit during the 11/12 season before his manager was given the boot.
I was a local boy and Tottenham are my club, ten minutes from my home, but I had to get away and if it meant going 200 miles to play regular football then so be it. It was my decision. Id had too many broken promises over the years at Tottenham; coaches saying I would get my chance if I played well then you find another eight midfielders suddenly ahead of you. Look at Ryan Mason - hes made the breakthrough now but it should have happened three years ago when he was playing even better in my opinion. - Jake Livermore, October 2014.
Now at Hull City, having sealed a permanent switch during the summer following a successful loan stint last term, the one-cap wonder is finally being given the platform to display his immeasurable talents and Mauricio Pochettino is probably regretting letting the box-to-box 25 year old slip through his fingers.
