Perhaps a third stint at Spurs would be stretching it, having already returned to the club five years ago after a year at Portsmouth. Jermain Defoe is 32 years old, and his best years are clearly past him - however, the clinical goal-poachers knack for goals will never be a trait that simply deserts him due to the ravages of time. Spurs profligacy in front of goal is quite embarrassing, with the 21 year old Harry Kane being the only striker at the club who seems to remember where the goalposts are. £24 million flop Roberto Soldado has looked a pale imitation of the fearsome striker who terrorised defences in Spain, while Emmanuel Adebayor has once again looked lazy, disinterested and out of sorts. Defoe has been strongly linked with a return to the Premier League in January, with the striker keen to be reunited with former Spurs boss Harry Redknapp at QPR following an unhappy year in Canada. Despite Defoes impressive goalscoring record in the MLS - 12 strikes in 17 appearances - he has grown disillusioned at the criticism he has endured from supporters and is prepared to cut short his time in North America. Surely Spurs could do worse than a short-term deal for the man who scored 137 goals for the club and is the clubs highest ever scorer in European competition with 23 strikes. Even during his last season at the club, where he struggled to compete with Soldado for game-time, he still registered a strike record of 10 goals in 22 appearances - Defoe has still got it.
