10 Former Strikers Spurs Wish They Had Now

5. Martin Chivers

Time At Spurs: 1968-1976. Games For Spurs: 367. Goals For Spurs: 174. Given how many games Martin Chivers played for Spurs, for him to have maintained a record of almost one goal every two games is truly remarkable. The England international - who scored 13 goals in 24 caps - was top scorer for Spurs in four successive seasons when he finally broke in to the team (when he arrived, he had Jimmy Greaves and Alan Gilzean in front of him, which is nothing to be ashamed of). He won the League Cup twice with the Lilywhites and the UEFA Cup once. Up until recently, he was the club's top scorer of all time in European competition and he is still the club's third top scorer of all time in all competitions. He was often described as lazy and lethargic but he made up for it with the kind of pace, strength and finishing ability that Spurs would love to have in their team today.
