10 Funny Spurs Stories From The Premier League Era
8. "Lads, It's Tottenham"
This entry is cheating somewhat, as it's more of a Manchester United story. However, the fact is that it does relate to Spurs and we're sure Spurs fans will see the funny side (especially since they've been much more successful against Manchester United in recent years). Everyone knows Roy Keane and Alex Ferguson had their differences but, while Keane was promoting his autobiography earlier this year at a question and answer session in London, he explained that he respected Ferguson and recalled one occasion in particular when he enjoyed what the boss had to say. Referring to a pre-match team-talk, prior to playing Spurs at Old Trafford, Keane pointed out the level to which Ferguson was capable of reading the mindset of his players. He said:
I thought I knew what the group might need, that we didn't need a big team talk. It was Tottenham at home. I thought please dont go on about Tottenham, we all know what Tottenham is about, they are nice and tidy but well f**king do them. He came in and said "Lads, its Tottenham". And that was it. Brilliant.
And, to be fair, they found the going very easy against Spurs for many years, so the three-word team-talk obviously worked!
