10 Game-Changing Premier League Summer Transfers
5. Paul Pogba - Manchester United To Juventus (2012)
With 38 trophies as Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson didn't often get things wrong at Old Trafford. But not everything Ferguson touched turned to gold. His dealings in the transfer market would sometimes miss the target, and one in particular, cost the club nearly £100 million.
Paul Pogba had been a part of the Manchester United youth setup since 2009. The young Frenchman was a highly-regarded prospect within the club, not least by Ferguson himself. He would rise through the ranks, before finally making his debut for the first team in 2011. Pogba's senior appearances after that were sporadic though, and in the summer of 2012, he signed for Juventus on a free transfer.
Pogba's stock rose dramatically at Juventus and after four years, and four Serie A titles, he decided it was time to move on with a Manchester United return on the cards. Pogba became a Red Devil once again in the summer of 2016, but this blockbuster sequel had a hefty mark-up of £89.3 million. This world-record transfer deal ensured that Juve's free signing of Pogba four years prior, was one of the greatest deals in transfer history - and one of Ferguson's most expensive mistakes.
