10 Great Rookie Seasons From Man Utd Players

4. Roy Keane - 1993-94

In 1993, Roy Keane€™s £3.75m transfer from Nottingham Forest was a club transfer record. With Bryan Robson and Paul Ince in United€™s midfield, Keane was going to find it hard to break into the line-up. However, an injury to Robson allowed Keane to start the first fourteen matches of the league season. The Irishman would take over Robson€™s mantle and missed just five league games all season as United romped to a second league title in as many years as the Premier League era began. Keano made his debut for United in the Charity Shield penalty victory against Arsenal. In his first appearance at Old Trafford, Keane netted twice in a 3-0 win over Sheffield United. Arguably Keane€™s finest moment came in the 3-2 win at Maine Road against Manchester City where the Irishman scored the winning goal to cap a great turnaround in the final minutes. United were top for all of the ten months in the season and eventually won the title by eight points from Blackburn. A couple of weeks later, Roy Keane had his second FA Cup final trip to Wembley, but would win on this occasion in a 4-0 win over Chelsea. Keane€™s first season was amongst his more successful as part of the double winners as United were eliminated by Galatasaray in the Champions League.
