More than fifty years after the first South American imports flew into Newcastle from Chile, two brothers from different families saw a very close relationship blossom on Tyneside as they became key members of the squad that dragged the Magpies back out of the Championship. The Argentines might not share blood, as the Robledos had in the '50s, but they were already close when they joined the club and grew closer as Gutierrez interpreted for his compatriot, particularly when Kevin Keegan swore. And then over six years, the pair grew closer, with the tragedy of Gutierrez's battle with cancer opening the doors on their closeness further:
"After surgery, I told (Ezequiel) Lavezzi, (Martin) Demichelis and Coloccini, who is very close to me. We've played together at Newcastle for six years and he calls me. He is almost a member of my family. "I decided to reveal all this because I think this is a difficult moment, but there is nothing wrong with this. These things may help other people."
