10 Hammers And Tigers Who Would Love To Relegate Newcastle
7. Neil McDonald (West Ham United)
Born and bred in Wallsend, Neil McDonald came up through the Newcastle United ranks and the versatile midfielder or defender scored 24 goals in 180 appearances for his boyhood club between 1983 and 1988. Having spent a few years as Sam Allardyce's first-team coach at Bolton Wanderers in the early-2000s, he then re-joined his mentor at Blackburn Rovers as assistant manager in December 2008 - and the pair then moved to West Ham United in June 2011. Although McDonald loves Newcastle and in an ideal world would probably love to see them stay in the top flight, he is loyal to Allardyce and thinks it was a disgrace the way his boss was dismissed from the Tyneside hotseat in January 2008. In addition, McDonald texted John Carver this week but has been ignored by the Magpies boss - with the latter saying he "doesn't care who it is" that he has to beat this weekend, even though he is supposedly good friends with the Hammers assistant. That might get McDonald riled and determined to send Newcastle down.
