10 Huge Boxing Upsets Nobody Expected To See

3. Hasim Rahman Defeats Lennox Lewis

Few fights have propelled a relative unknown into the spotlight quite like this one.

British star and heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis was widely expected to dispatch American opponent Rahman with relative ease thanks to what many saw as his superior boxing ability.

In fairness to Lewis, that boxing ability was firmly on display through the opening four rounds, as he picked his shots at Rahman with ease and was comfortably ahead in the fight.

The fifth round proved more difficult for Lewis, however, and with Rahman backing the Brit up against the ropes, a momentary lapse cost Lewis everything.

He dropped his gloves for a split second, and before he knew it, Rahman had landed a flush right hand to send Lewis crashing to the canvas.

The champion couldn't make the count, and against all the odds, Rahman became the unexpected heavyweight champion of the world.

Lewis got his revenge in the rematch, but few can deny the fact that this remains one of the biggest upsets of all time.
