10 Huge UFC Stars Who Could Return In 2017
1. Georges St. Pierre
Perhaps the first really good news fans of the UFC have heard this year: superstar Georges St. Pierre, considered the greatest welterweight of all time, and one of the promotion's biggest draws, has finally agreed to terms to come back to the octagon.
That makes GSP a lock to return in 2017, and he could turn out to be the UFC's savior. St. Pierre is one of the promotion's top draws, one of a very few men to pass the million buy mark, or get close to it on a consistent basis. He headlined one of the biggest live events in Toronto, and like Conor McGregor has an entire nation supporting him. More importantly, it's a nation (Canada) that orders UFC events on PPV, meaning that when he fights, the buys go up.
Who he'll fight, and when, is the question. Super fights with Nick Diaz and Anderson Silva have been floated, but St. Pierre already beat Diaz, and Anderson Silva is past his prime, taking some of the fun out of that fight. A run at either the welterweight or middleweight titles is possible, but after being away for years, should St. Pierre even consider jumping right back in the deep end?
Another possibility would be a super fight with Conor McGregor, who twice fought Nate Diaz at GSP's old weight class of 170lbs. However, the UFC may not want to put both fighters on the same card in 2017, instead spreading their talent out a little.
Vegas oddsmakers have the favorite for GSP's return as Michael Bisping, current middleweight holder. Regardless of who it is, however, it looks like 2017 will be the year "Rush" returns.
