10 Idiotic Decisions Made By Former Newcastle Players

10. Loic Remy Joined Chelsea's Bench

We should probably all have read the signs. As soon as mercurial Frenchman Loic Remy decided that a big pile of cash was all the footballing reasons he needed to join QPR at the last minute instead of moving to Newcastle as planned in January 2013 it should have been clear that he wasn't a good idea. But then with QPR inevitably relegated and Newcastle missing Demba Ba, Joe Kinnear pretended he'd pulled off a master-stroke to bring the player back to the club - initially on loan - and everyone forgave the mercenary for following the cash South. After that though, Remy lost some fans by refusing to entertain the idea of coming to Newcastle permanently, choosing Liverpool and the chance to watch Rickie Lambert bang the goals in from the bench. That bid fell at the last hurdle, and Remy was again linked to Newcastle, with fans again willing to forgive and forget, before Remy did what he does best and signed for Chelsea, where he will be a near-permanent fixture on the bench with Diego Costa on fire ahead of him in the pecking order. Remy won't stay at Chelsea wrong, and in footballing terms - the terms he claims matter to him most - his decision to join them is a silly one, as his opportunities to play will be severely limited. He could have been a hero at Newcastle, and instead he's opted to be just another number on a payroll.
