10 Last Minute Football Transfers That Could Still Go Down Before The Deadline Day

3. Philippe Coutinho To Arsenal

Where has it all gone wrong for Philippe Coutinho?

At one time one of the most dangerous players in the Premier League, Coutinho's dream move to Barcelona has not worked out in the way the Brazilian would have planned when putting pen to paper. It's never really been obvious whether Coutinho was a replacement for the departing Andres Iniesta or Neymar, being regularly rotated in and out of the side and employed in a handful of positions by Ernesto Valverde.

A loan spell with Bayern Munich last season, which included 38 appearances, 11 goals and a brace in that 8-2 thumping of Barcelona, showed off a couple of glimpses of the old Coutinho, but at 28 years of age, he needs some more stability now.

Coutinho, much like an individual such as James Rodriguez, seems to be a player that thrives on being the star at a club, and it's unlikely that he will ever find that level of superstardom at a club like Bayern or Barca.

With rumours of Mikel Arteta's rejuvenated Arsenal side looking at the Brazilian talisman, it could be one of the matches of the summer. There's undoubtedly a Mesut Ozil-shaped creative hole in the Arsenal side at the moment, and letting someone like Coutinho take the reins as a superstar could propel the Gunners right up the top six mini league.
