10 Lessons Learned From UFC Fight Night: Mousasi vs. Souza

3. Despite The Win, Ben Rothwell Is Far From A Top Contender

Knocking out Alistair Overeem just doesn't get you the credit that it used to. Sure, it basically gave Bigfoot Silva a second crack at Cain Velasquez, but that was before Travis Browne did it as well. Now that Rothwell has done it, well, you know what they say - three's a crowd. Rothwell picked up the win in the first round after counter-punching a glancing blow from Overeem, and he knocked the big man down, pounced, punched, and took the win. All credit to him. As he said after the fight, it's all about believing in yourself. Just excuse us if we don't believe Rothwell is title shot ready. He talked about making a run at the strap, but Rothwell has been around a while, and hasn't shown the sort of high level consistency a title run would need.
