10 Liverpool Heroes Whose Careers Have Nosedived Since Leaving Anfield

10. Dietmar Hamann

Where does a 32 year old midfielder go having won nine pieces of silverware with Liverpool during a seven-year spell, including an historic Champions League triumph the year before? Evidently, Dietmar Hamann didn€™t really know and ended up signing for two clubs in the space of a day following his release from Anfield in the summer of 2006. Having been persuaded to become the latest in a long list of €˜golden oldies€™ at Bolton Wanderers, the former German international underwent a quick €˜change of heart€™ and reneged on the pre-contract to sign for Manchester City instead. Hamann spent three seasons at Eastlands - back when they were poor of course - amassing 54 league appearances in total before finishing his career with League One outfit MK Dons during the 10/11 season. In a way, it was to be expected that Hamann€™s career would peter out - there was a reason that the midfielder had been let go from Anfield without a fuss after seven years of loyal service, after all. The writing was always on the cards when Real Sociedad midfielder Xabi Alonso was acquired in the summer of 2004, slowly edging the German towards the exit door, and resigning him to a fairly mediocre final curtain of his career.
