10 Liverpool Players Who Should Fear For Their Future

9. Simon Mignolet

While Sky Sports€™ pundit Gary Neville has been mocked for his €˜character assassination€™ of Simon Mignolet in the wake of Phil Jagielka€™s Anfield thunderbolt for Everton in September, the former Man United right-back did have a point about the Belgian goalkeeper€™s capabilities. If Liverpool are to have aspirations about competing at the top level, they need a more reliable and safer pair of hands. While much has been made of their defensive frailties, Mignolet€™s poor distribution and lack of a presence in his own goalmouth hasn€™t been alluded to much by his own supporters. Last season, he was at fault for a number of high-profile errors, including a potentially title-swaying moment where his wrists turned to jelly under the weight of a simple shot from Man City€™s Alvaro Negredo. While Mignolet probably couldn€™t have done much about Jagielka€™s 25 yard arrow in September, the point was still valid - he crouches too low, leaving himself vulnerable to the rising shot. The 26 year old has time on his side to clear up his errors, and improve his game, but there have been some murmurings that Brendan Rodgers might just look to recoup some of the £10 million that was splurged on the former Sunderland goalkeeper in the summer of 2013.
