10 Liverpool Players Who Should Fear For Their Future

4. Glen Johnson

If one needs to look up the term €˜scapegoat€™ in a dictionary, they needn€™t bother. All they need to do is mosey on over to Anfield and listen to the groans every time Glen Johnson touches the ball. He has been at the club for over half a decade now, but has been widely criticised in recent seasons for lapses in concentration and an apparent lack of understanding in defensive situations. Perhaps unfairly, many speculated that if Liverpool were to clinch the Premier League title last season, they would have done so in spite of their error-prone right-back. This season, injuries have restricted Johnson to just five league starts and one appearance in Europe - a 3-0 home reversal to Real Madrid. The arrival of 20 year old right-back Javi Manquillo, on loan from Athletico Madrid, was greeted warmly by Liverpool supporters and he has been one of the few performers to have impressed for the club thus far this season. With full-back Jon Flanagan waiting in the wings for a return to the first-team, perhaps Johnson could be on his way out sooner rather than later? With the full-back€™s £100,000 p/wk contract due to run out next summer, and talks on a renewal having gone €˜very quiet€™, the increasing likelihood is that the 30 year old former Chelsea man will be released on a free transfer next summer.
