10 Liverpool Players Who Weren't Worth The Hassle

9. Charles Itandje

The name Charles Itandje certainly doesn't spring into the minds of Liverpool fans worldwide, nor should it, but he made the headlines for all the wrong reasons during his time at Anfield. Signed from Lens in August 2007, as backup to undisputed number one Pepe Reina, the Cameroonian goalkeeper was one of the most unknown players at the club at the time. With Reina playing every Premier League and Champions League game, Itandje was limited to League Cup and other relatively meaningless games during 2007/08, while in 2008/09 he didn't make one solitary appearance. While some players of this kind remain respected members of the squad by both teammates and fans alike, Itandje destroyed his reputation completely in April 2009. During the memorial service for the 20th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster, the goalkeeper was caught on camera laughing and generally paying no respect to an event that affected the lives of so many on Merseyside. The reaction was understandably one of anger by everyone who had seen it, and despite his apologies, he was suspended by the club for 14 days. He never played another game for Liverpool.
