10 Man Utd Players Who Did Nothing For Club (But Excelled For Their Country)
9. Paul Pogba
It seems all kinds of premature to class a 21 year old as having excelled on the international front. The boy has just 20 caps to his name, and has only been to one tournament - surely the plaudits should be reigned in for another few years. However, considering Pogbas meteoric rise over the last few years, including on the international front, he more than merits his place on this list. How Manchester United could do with a player of the Frenchmans ilk sitting in the centre of their midfield, and Sir Alex Ferguson will always rue the day he let the youngster leave having failed to trust him with enough appearances. The talented boy from Lagny-sur-Marne made just three first-team appearances for the Red Devils, and expressed his public dismay at having been overlooked in favour of a midfield duo of Rafael and Ji-Sung Park for the clubs 3-2 defeat to Blackburn Rovers in December 2011. Not only did that game ultimately cost the club the title, but it lost them a future star. For France, he has progressed with ease through the youth levels, captaining the side who won the countrys first ever U-20 World Cup in 2013. Having made his debut for the senior team in a 2014 World Cup qualifier, he soon ingratiated himself into the first-team with a series of composed and accomplished performances before being named in Frances squad for the 2014 World Cup. It was here that Pogbas star really shone through for the blue of France, scoring the opening goal in a round of 16 clash with Nigeria, before being named the tournaments Best Young Player. It was a far cry from watching a right-back and a winger take to the pitch ahead of him for a doomed fixture with Blackburn, thats for sure.
