10 Man Utd Players Who Did Nothing For Club (But Excelled For Their Country)

3. Diego Forlan

17 goals in 98 appearances. At the time, Premier League audiences didn€™t know what to think of Diego Forlan€™s tally for Manchester United. Was this just another example of a South American who simply couldn€™t adjust to the rigours of English football or was he truly a dreadful footballer? It€™s nearly ten years since the Uruguayan international has left the club and it€™s safe to say that those qualms have been put to bed - having bagged 155 goals in Spain during the seven seasons he spent there, scooping two Pichichi Trophies, two European Golden Shoes, and a Europa League, Forlan is a class act. Manchester United supporters were rubbing their eyes with disbelief during the 2010 World Cup as they were witnessing the performances of a calm, accomplished performer, from eloquently stroking the ball into the top corner to dining beautiful through balls for his team-mates. At Old Trafford, Forlan had simply lurched from one disaster to the next, but here, he was like a man possessed as Uruguay reached the semi-finals, with the former Man United misfit picking the FIFA World Cup Golden Ball for his troubles. The man has scored 36 goals in 112 appearances for his country, and has taken part in three World Cups, three Copa Americas and a Confederations Cup. The only question is, at 35 years of age, when is he going to hang up the boots?
