Unlike golf where you have to buy expensive equipment, wear chequered clothing and spend half your life savings to join a decent club, darts is cheap. Any half-decent pub has a dart board out back and also provides a handy source of liquid encouragement. And unlike cricket where you have to wear white to avoid being burnt by the sun because you're standing around doing nothing when you haven't got the bat, darts encourages, nay demands, a theatrical approach to clothing. And unlike tennis, which is too physically demanding to qualify as a reasonable way to spend your time, darts only needs one arm and a couple of fingers.
