10 Memorable Arsenal Goals Scored By Ordinary Players

9. Mikael Silvestre vs Spurs - October 2008

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UASYr7lRIZo In the same league of French centre-halves who failed abysmally in north London such as Sebastien Squillaci and Pascal Cygan, Mikael Silvestre was another who was lambasted for a string of errors and general languid play since arriving on a free transfer from Manchester United in 2008. At 31 years old, Silvestre was past at his best, and he had never been particularly fantastic to begin with. Giving Gunners heart palpitations whenever he tussled with a pacey striker in the box, perhaps it was a crafty hand grenade thrown by the wily Sir Alex Ferguson into the Emirates pit. Having scored two against Liverpool for Man United, Silvestre can lay claim to having scored in the north London derby, glancing home a header in the sensational 4-4 draw in October 2008. With old boy David Bentley having thoroughly rocked the stadium with a looping 40-yard piledriver into the top corner, Silvestre restored parity after 37 minutes as he rose to meet Cesc Fabregas' header to divert a header into the far corner. Rising to their feet, the home support were relaxed following a quite frankly worrying first half. The Gunners would later roar into a 4-2 lead, through goals from William Gallas, Emmanuel Adebayor and Robin van Persie, before Silvestre's dark side reared its' ugly head, as his defensive frailties were exposed as Arsenal succumbed to a flurry of late goals from Jermaine Jenas and Aaron Lennon.
