10 Memorable Arsenal Goals Scored By Ordinary Players

6. Jose Antonio Reyes vs Chelsea - February 2004

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gocpJ9Sfcbg The career of Jose Antonio Reyes in north London had so many ups and downs, that his first month in English football was almost fitting as it set the tone. Arriving in a £10.5 million deal from Sevilla, the 21 year old Spaniard instantly scored an embarrassing own goal in the Gunners' League Cup semi-final defeat to Middlesbrough, before atoning for his error later that month, by firing two goals past Chelsea in the FA Cup. The marvellous performance had Highbury worshipping at his feet such was the proficiency and excellence of the finishes. With Adrian Mutu having given the Blues a shock lead before the break, a tetchy Arsenal support grew tentative, but their prayers were answered in style after 56 minutes, as Reyes picked up the ball 25 yards from goal and arrowed a super strike into the top corner of the net. With Arsene Wenger's men having composed themselves, they didn't have to wait long for a second, with Reyes beating goalkeeper Neil Sullivan - who had just replaced the injured Carlo Cudicini a minute earlier - after having been slipped through by Patrick Vieira. It was certainly an explosive five minutes for the newcomer and had Arsenal supporters marvelling at their latest acquisition. If only they knew.
''Thierry Henry is the king of Highbury. Well, there's a new prince now.'' - John Motson, February 2004.
