10 Memorable Liverpool Goals Scored By Ordinary Players

9. Bruno Cheyrou vs Chelsea; January 2004

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usiaIE9UOvs Dubbed the 'new Zidane' by Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier upon signing him from Lille in 2002, Reds supporters didn't have to wait long to realise that was a complete fallacy. Five goals in 48 appearances for the club was a woeful return for an apparent goal-scoring midfielder, and as far Zidane-esque traits went, he was quickly exposed as lightweight and inefficient when pitted against the rigours of the Premier League. There was one stand-out moment that he departed Merseyside with, however. It arrived in January 2004, back before Jose Mourinho had arrived to make Stamford Bridge the fortress that could not be breached. Still, Claudio Ranieri's Chelsea were pushing Arsenal for the title when Champions League-chasing Liverpool arrived in west London to snatch all three points. With Emile Heskey sweeping in an inch-perfect cross from the right, the Frenchman was on hand to stab past Carlo Cudicini. It was his first league goal for The Reds, and while Cheyrou failed to live up to expectations, at least he can pride himself on having scored the winner at Stamford Bridge. Only a number of players can lay claim to that over the last ten years.
