''A special goal for a special fixture. One that will be replayed for years and years to come.''
The commentator was right, the left-footed shot possessed dynamism, power and class all rolled into one, as the Aussie winger sumptuously smashed home The Red's third goal of a pulsating Merseyside derby. With Steven Gerrard having been shown his marching orders inside the first twenty minutes, Liverpool were under pressure to deliver the three points the home support demanded of them. Thankfully for them, their cross-city neighbours helped them out a little, as Phil Neville helped the ball into his own just before half-time before Luis Garcia swept home a second. Everton once again shot themselves in the foot as they levelled the numerical playing field immediately after pulling a goal back through Tim Cahill, with Andy van der Meyde receiving a red card. Harry Kewell has not been classed as 'ordinary' by too many people in his career. This was a man who had been PFA Young Player of the Year and been subject of a £25 million bid from Inter Milan while at Leeds United prior to his move to Liverpool in 2003. An explosive winger with an eye for goal, big things were expected of him at Anfield. However, by the time the Merseyside derby took place in April 2006, he was a shell of a man. Injuries had ravaged him, and he had replicated nothing of the goal-scoring form that had illuminated Elland Road. It's a shame to say that by the time he finished Everton off with a sweeping 25 yarder into the top corner, he probably was just an 'ordinary' player.
