10 Memorable Liverpool Goals Scored By Ordinary Players

7. David N'Gog vs Man United; October 2009

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnX0hunASXs One of the worst Liverpool strikers in recent memory, Reds supporters still wake in the dead of night shuddering at his open-goal misses and general wastefulness. There is a reason why his surge through every international youth level with the French team went no further than the u21s. With a laughable Premier League goal record of nine in 63 appearances, N'Gog was an unmitigated failure. It probably makes Manchester United's defeat at Anfield in October 2009 all the more humiliating, as not was it their third successive loss at the hands of their most hated rivals, but their rear-guard had been breached by the profligate 20 year old. With Liverpool a goal to the good through Fernando Torres' second-half strike, Manchester United steamed forward in a vain effort to snatch the equaliser, thus leaving themselves vulnerable to the counter-attack. That's exactly what happened in the sixth minute of injury-time, as Liverpool found themselves in a two-on-one situation, leaving Lucas Leiva with the easy task of sliding through substitute N'Gog for a one-on-one with van der Sar. Dispatching it with aplomb, the roof was nearly lifted off the stadium, with goalkeeper Pepe Reina even rushing the length of the pitch to join in the celebrations. He may have been a diabolical signing for The Reds, but that is one goal that he will cherish until the day he dies.
