10 Midfielders That Will Be In Roy Hodgson's Provisional England Squad (And 1 That Won't)

4. Ross Barkley - Everton

Caps: 3 Goals: 0 A precocious talent, Barkley looks set to be an England regular for years to come. Described as a cross between Ballack and Gascoigne by Roberto Martinez, the young Evertonian is perfectly suited to the Spaniard's attractive style of football and has been given the freedom to develop his outrageous potential further this season. This summer's tournament is likely to come too soon for Barkley to command a starting role but his impact of the bench could be vital for England. His direct running is extremely dangerous (think back to his 70 yard wonder goal against Newcastle) and against tiring opposition his energy and exuberance could be a potent weapon for Hodgson. If the England manager is serious about taking players purely based upon form then Barkley deserves to be in the squad, to gain major tournament experience for the first time.
