10 Midfielders That Will Be In Roy Hodgson's Provisional England Squad (And 1 That Won't)

3. Frank Lampard - Chelsea

Caps: 87 Goals: 28 Now drawing towards the end of a glittering club career, Lampard is another of the 'Golden Generation' that will see Brazil as a last opportunity to enjoy tournament football in an England shirt. The Chelsea midfielder has not played as much football as he may have hoped under the second coming of Mourinho but he cannot expect to start regularly now that The Blues host such an attacking array of talent, with the likes of Oscar, Hazard and Willian in their ranks. The great English conundrum of the last decade was how to accommodate Lampard and Gerrard into the same team. No manager could ever quite crack the puzzle and get the best out of both of them but this time around Lampard will be taken as cover for Gerrard, rather than as a starter alongside him. Given Hodgson's cautious approach it is highly unlikely he will opt for a completely youthful squad and this veteran will bring some much needed experience.
