10 Mistakes Spurs Boss Mauricio Pochettino Has Made So Far
10. Not Giving Jan Vertonghen Extra Responsibility
When Spurs announced their new captain and vice captains earlier in the season, the news that emerged was something of a surprise. Younes Kaboul was named as captain, while Hugo Lloris and Emmanuel Adebayor were named as vice captains. Pochettino had asked around the club to get the views of the players about who should be handed this extra responsibility and, in combination with his own observations, opted for the two Frenchmen and the Togo international. But what about Jan Vertonghen? The Belgian is one of Spurs' best outfield players, a commanding and influential centre back and was widely tipped to be given the captaincy - but he was left out completely. Vertonghen is a player who requires nurturing - as shown by his tantrums last season - so it would have been a wise idea to make him feel important. You can't help but think that Spurs won't get the best out of him now that he will undoubtedly feel a little low in the pecking order.
