10 Mistakes Spurs Boss Mauricio Pochettino Has Made So Far

7. Failing To Sign Morgan Schneiderlin

Spurs have some fairly decent players in the midfield anchor positions - Etienne Capoue, Mousa Dembele and new signing Benjamin Stambouli to name but a few - but none of them have half as much impact on games as Morgan Schneiderlin. Mauricio Pochettino showed interest in his former player over the summer, but the move never materialised - despite the fact that Schneiderlin tried to force a move out of Southampton. It was clearly due to the fact that the Saints had already sold Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert, Calum Chambers, Dejan Lovren and Luke Shaw. What that proves is that Southampton were willing to sell players up to a point, but the clubs who made the first moves were likely to get their men - meaning Spurs and Pochettino were simply too slow off the mark. Schneiderlin has started the season brilliantly for Southampton, after admitting defeat in his quest for a move - he has scored three goals and notched an assist from a defensive midfield position - and Spurs should certainly go back in for him in January.
