10 Modern Spurs Legends Tottenham Fans Idolise

2. Teddy Sheringham

Teddy Sheringham is a Tottenham legend, full stop, let alone in the modern era.

From the very beginning of his Spurs career in 1992, he endeared himself to the fans and was the Premier League€™s top scorer in his first season following his move from Nottingham Forest. He was also Spurs€™ top scorer in a further four seasons over the following ten years.

Sheringham was never quick or particularly mobile, but he had a world class footballing mind which granted him an extra couple of yards against any given opponent, His ability to score goals was equalled by his ability to hold up the ball beautifully and always find the right pass in a manner that was simply wonderful to watch.

In his time at White Hart Lane, he formed formidable strike partnerships with players ranging from Jurgen Klinsmann to Chris Armstrong and Robbie Keane and he made nearly 250 league appearances for the team in his two spells with the club. He was a losing finalist for Spurs in the 2-1 defeat to Blackburn in the 2001 League Cup.

He is the ninth highest Premier League goalscorer of all time with 147 goals €“ 98 of which were with Spurs €“ and Spurs€™ ninth highest scorer of all time, having scored 124 goals in all competitions.

He left for a highly successful spell with Manchester United in 1997 before returning on a free transfer in 2001.
