In the documentary based on Pastrana, 199 lives, his father Robert said: He went from 60 miles an hour to reverse in just a split second. You figure, how can somebody survive that hit. I was sure that he was dead. Travis injuries almost cost him his life, and were much more serious that doctors first suspected. He said: People say that if you learn from your mistakes, they were worth it. With Havasu, the thing I learned, I dont know if it was a good thing. I learned that you can only tolerate so much pain before you pass out. I figured I had already been through the most pain I could ever possibly go through. So, there really wasnt anything to fear.
