10 Most Disappointing Players Of World Cup 2018's Group Stage

1. Jérôme Boateng

Like Thomas Müller, Jérôme Boateng wasn't necessarily the worst player in the Germans' dreadful World Cup campaign, but he was one of the most experienced men on the pitch and committed a shocking error in getting himself sent off near the end of the clash with Sweden.

It was a must-win game for the Germans and Boateng, who had already picked up a yellow card, needed to lead by example and keep his head to help his side stay in with a chance. Instead, he committed a silly foul on Marcus Berg and got himself sent off, not only leaving his team with 10 men for the final 10 minutes, but also eliminating him from their final group game.

Boateng is a really talented player and could have had a say in Germany's last match with South Korea, but he had to watch from the sidelines as they fell to another embarrassing loss and ended up in bottom spot of Group F. For one of the world's best defenders, his World Cup was nowhere near good enough.
