10 Most Disappointing Players Of World Cup 2018's Group Stage

2. Thomas Müller

He was the main man at the last two World Cups, winning the Golden Boot in 2010 after scoring five goals and helping Germany win the trophy in 2014 with another five goals, but Thomas Müller couldn't replicate any of that sort of form at this summer's World Cup.

The 28-year-old has always been one of Germany's greatest performers and has been such a big World Cup player, so it was a real shock to see him struggling for form this summer. Nobody could have predicted that Germany would fail so spectacularly in their World Cup trophy defence, and Müller was even one of the favourites to win the Golden Boot before the tournament got started, but only got one shot on target in all three group games.

He created some chances for teammates and wasn't the worst player on the pitch for Germany, but as one of the more experienced and successful members of the squad, he was expected to lead the way for his nation and really struggled to do so. This might have been his last World Cup, and it was a miserable way for such a great player to bow out.
