10 Most Disappointing Players Of World Cup 2018's Group Stage
7. Gonzalo Higuaín
There's a lot of competition for the attacking roles in Argentina's lineup, but Gonzalo Higuaín did himself no favours with his performances in the group stage of this World Cup. Man City's Sergio Agüero scored a stunner in Argentina's first game and Lionel Messi kept them in the competition with his performance in the final match, but Higuaín looked lethargic every time he appeared.
When presented with a really decent scoring opportunity in the final group game with Nigeria, he sent his shot into row Z, and that pretty much summed up his tournament so far. Despite being a prolific scorer at club level, Higuaín has developed a bit of a reputation for failing to turn up for his country in big game, famously missing a one-on-one chance in the 2014 World Cup final and skying a penalty in the 2015 Copa America final.
Thanks to Marcos Rojo, Argentina managed to get out of their group and the blushes of Higuaín were spared, but a striker of his quality will have a lot of regrets when looking back at some key games in his international career - especially as he was forced to warm the bench as the Albiceleste were dumped out by France.
