10 Most Disappointing Premier League Players Of 2014/15 (So Far)

6. Per Mertesacker

Mertesacker's 2013/14 season couldn't really have ended much better. Having won the FA Cup with Arsenal, their first major trophy in almost a decade, the giant centre-back then sealed World Cup glory with Germany in Brazil during the summer. It was an obvious career high for the 30-year-old, but he has been very mediocre since. The former Werder Bremen star has looked lacking in focus and hunger at times, almost as if nothing now will ever compare to winning the World Cup. He needs to have shown more professionalism, and his performances are a big reason why the Gunners have looked so flimsy at the back. He inexcusably ducked out of the way of Martin Skrtel's last-gasp header in the 2-2 draw with Liverpool last month, and he did a similar thing during his side's 3-2 loss to Stoke City as well. That lack of bravery and focus epitomises Mertesacker's disappointing season to date.
