10 Most Disappointing Premier League Players Of 2014/15 (So Far)
5. Robin van Persie
Having been sensational for Arsenal in 2011/12, winning the PFA Player of the Year award, and the key reason for United winning the Premier League title a year later, last season was a poor one for Van Persie. Injuries hampered him, and he looked past his best. Many were expecting the revitalised Dutchman to shine at Old Trafford this season, however, particularly as Louis van Gaal had taken charge there, but he has been insipid for much of the campaign. Sure, eight goals in 17 appearances are far from the most shabby goalscoring statistics you will ever see, but that masks some extremely ineffective displays. At times he has barely had a kick of the ball, and he has cut a frustrated figure. United's defeat at home to Southampton on Sunday was the perfect example of this. At 31, Van Persie is probably not the player he was two or three years ago, but given the talent he has playing alongside him, you would expect more from him. The odd goal here and there, but little else, is not good enough for a player of his calibre.
