10 Most Expensive Transfer Flops In Everton History

2. Simon Davies (£4m)

Although £4 million is peanuts by today's standards, for a cash-strapped Everton that had to sell to buy in 2005, it was a significant portion of their transfer kitty.

It also turned out to be a significant portion wasted when David Moyes handed it over to Spurs to bring playmaker Simon Davies to Goodison Park in May of that year.

Davies was known for his creativity but he failed to channel it at every turn in a blue shirt. His only notably contribution for the club in two seasons was a winning goal against Birmingham City, which gave the Blues their first win for two months and inspired a reversal in their fortunes.

The Wales international's fortunes would only reverse when he joined Fulham in January 2007 for an undisclosed fee.
