Before an athlete can truly transition over into realm of pop culture, they need someone who is going to test them, someone who is there to challenge their greatness. In the case of Muhammad Ali, the man many consider to be the greatest boxer of all time due to his frantic footwork ,ferocious punching power and his magnificent chin, it was Joe Fraizer who became arguably his biggest foil inside the ring. Their first in a trilogy of fights was at the legendary Madison Square Gardens, home to some of the biggest sporting events in history. Dubbed 'The Fight of the Century' due to both men being undefeated heavyweight phenoms and the back-and-forth banter and bickering, the two men squared off for the WBA, WBC and The Ring heavyweight straps with Fraizer coming out on top with a unanimous decision. However, their in-ring confrontations didn't end their, as the two struck up a rivalry that lasted for half a decade. When the two fought again three years later, Ali won the decision making it one-a-piece between the two heavyweight scrappers. It would only take a year for the two to battle one last time in front of the masses when they headed to the Philippines for the 'Thrilla in Manilla'. With both men holding a victory over each other, it was time to finally find out who really was 'The Baddest Man on the Planet'. While the other bouts went to the judges' scorecards, Ali took matters into his own hands in their final fight by knocking out Fraizer in the 14th round and retaining the WBA, WBC and The Ring heavyweight titles he'd won from George Foreman in the 'Rumble in the Jungle'. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WFrr-BDL8U
