10 Most Legendary Substitutes In Football History

2. Mario Götze (Germany) Vs Argentina

A dream goal from the Borussia Dortmund star Mario Götze, against Argentina, clinched the 2014 World Cup for Germany. Germany became the first European side to win the World Cup on South American soil with a dramatic late goal in a 1-0 victory that prevented Argentina claiming World Cup victory.

Götze was long tipped to be one of the world's very best and looked poised to become "the German Messi" with a decisive impact in the biggest match of his life when he scored the only goal of the final against Argentina at the Maracana.

Götze, who came on as a substitute, chested down an Andre Schürrle cross deep into extra time and stroked it past Sergio Romero for the winner. It was the second-latest goal in a World Cup final, after Andres Iniesta's 116th-minute winner in the 2010 final.

Gotze told The Athletic:

"There is nothing more amazing (than the final goal).”
