Ally McCoist may not be the most popular name around Ibrox these days, following his disastrous reign as first team manager at the club he grew up supporting, but nobody can take away the fact that he was one of the greatest strikers to ever pull on that infamous blue shirt. Signing in 1983 from Sunderland, 'Super Ally' was lighting up Old Firm games quickly, none more so than the 1984 League Cup Final against Celtic. On March 25th, 1984, McCoist would strike a hat-trick at Hampden Park, and it must have been one of the sweetest moments of his entire career. The forward would later have his problems with Graeme Souness, as the coach didn't fancy Ally as a regular starter, but he showed how deadly a goalscorer he could be during this particular game against Rangers biggest foes. Over 66,000 fans crammed into Scotland's national stadium to see the Light Blues take the victory in a thrilling contest. It was on course to be a season that Gers fans could largely forget until McCoist slammed home the trio of goals against Celtic - a 4th placed finish in the league meant this League Cup win was all supporters really had to cheer about.
