10 Most Under-Rated Newcastle Players Ever

4. Scott Sellars

Newcastle United: 1993-95 League Appearances: 75 League Goals: 8
An attacking left-midfielder, Scott Sellars is sometimes overlooked when Magpies supporters talk about the exciting wingers to have strutted their stuff on the St James' Park pitch. Lacking the elegance or skill or David Ginola, and unable to call upon a wicked shot or whipped cross like Laurent Robert could, Sellars still provided opportunity after opportunity for the likes of Andy Cole to thrive upon between 1993 and 1995. Sellars' assists helped Newcastle to promotion in 1993 - he even scored the winning goal in the 1-0 derby victory over Sunderland at St James' Park - and he then aided their rise up the Premier League the following season. Kevin Keegan loved wingers like Sellars and Keith Gillespie, because they were direct and loved getting forward. A good, old-fashioned left-sided player, Sellars should be remembered as such.
