As you can probably tell, meniscus injuries are quite common in MMA. With all the grappling and strain put on the lower body, that's to be expected. Jon Jones tore his while training against Alistair Overeem. It resulted in his match against Daniel Cormier being pushed to January 2015 - adding insult to injury in the case of Alexander Gustafsson, who had been booked to fight Jones in September before being injured himself. In essence, Cormier was able to jump the line, and got to keep his shot even after the fight was moved to January. If there's any positive in the Jones vs. Cormier fight being moved to January it's that it has allowed the UFC more time to market the grudge match. These two guys really dislike each other, and it should bring the UFC a solid payday when it comes to PPV sales. On the downside, the loss of the fight really did hurt the UFC 178 card, as a flyweight title fight replaced it, and with all apologies to Mighty Mouse Johnson, his fight against then 9th-ranked Chris Cariaso just couldn't live up to the two top light heavyweights going at it.
